Yesterday, I received a wonderful gift: VIP tickets to see my mentor, Jay Shetty, from whom I earned my coaching accreditation! As one of his certified coaches, I can never get enough of the wisdom and education he shares—he continues to inspire me daily. This is one of the many reasons I chose his school to obtain my coaching certification.
One of the many inspiring topics he addressed at his On Purpose event was the idea that you do not simply find the perfect or purposeful career; you have to build and create it. Isn't that so true? Think about how many job descriptions you’ve read, companies you’ve worked for, or interviews you’ve attended while searching for the “right” or “perfect” job or career path. The reality is that you don’t just stumble upon it; you need to actively create it for yourself. If you find yourself in a job or career that doesn’t allow for this, sometimes the best you can do is find meaning in your work or discover ways to make it more fulfilling.
This brings us to the big question: “How do you create or build your dream job?” Jay offered a wonderful insight on this as well. He suggested thinking of your dream job as a puzzle that needs to be assembled, where you must look for the pieces and fit them together, one by one, to reveal the complete picture.
Just like putting a puzzle together, some pieces may fit perfectly while others may require more searching to find the right one for each spot. Additionally, it might take time to locate the piece you need before a section is complete.
